About
The International Digital Art Biennale (BIAN) returns every two years as part of the Elektra Digital Arts Festival. In 2016, BIAN presented its 3rd edition under the theme AUTOMATA: Art made by machines for machines. We created a signature visual identity that properly positions the theme of the biennale, affirms its place within the digital avant-garde, brings Switzerland to the forefront as a guest country and shows its connection to the Elektra Festival.
The BIAN identity was conceptualized by applying a design that is very Swiss, organized and precise. In order to activate this concept, we chose right-angle frames as a compositional cue, squares that delineate space and allow for a striking contrast in the centrepiece colours: red, black and white. Within this framework, the interplay of repeating lines and printer traces on canvas or fabric evoke mechanical rhythms. Showcasing a photo from the Inferno performance, the Biennale centrepiece reaffirms the BIAN theme while signaling the main elements of the program and the events ahead.
